YMCA AWARDS LEVEL 3 AWARD IN DERLIVERING CHAIR-BASED EXERCISE - 2 DAY COURSE

 

As the growing population gets older and lives longer this qualification can give you the skills and knowledge to teach this rewarding group of clients. It will enable you to work in retirement homes, care homes, local authority centres as well as one to one with your own clients. It will teach you a range of research based chair-based exercises and give you the ability to plan and deliver chair–based exercise to either frailer older adults or those who are chair bound.

 

What will I learn?

 

Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification:

 

•the values and principles of adult social care

•knowledge and understanding of chair-based exercise and its value with adults in care and community settings, including frailer older adults and disabled adults

•the difference between chair-based exercise and physical activity

•the impact of body system changes associated with ageing, disability and inactivity (home study)

•the structure and content of a chair-based exercise session

•how to plan for frailer older adults or disabled adults

 

Skills relating to the qualification:

 

•be able to plan a safe and effective chair-based exercise session

•be able to deliver a safe and effective chair-based exercise session

•be able to reflect upon a safe and effective chair-based exercise

 

How will I be assessed?

•Coursework to include assessed Anatomy & Physiology Worksheets (home study).

•Practical demonstration/assignment (taught session plan).

 

How long is the course taught?

You will be sent your knowledge base manual to study at home prior to coming on the course. On day one of the course your tutor will briefly revise the aging processes with you. The course focuses on the 30 research chair based exercises and the relevant teaching and coaching of them.  Day 2 of the course your practical assessment of a given number of chair based exercises.  You will be required to produce a lesson plan, teach and evaluate your teaching. After the course you have time to complete the worksheets and submit them for marking.

 

What qualification will I gain?

Level 2 Award in Chair Based Exercise. You will also gain 16 REPS CPD points (subject to change).

What are the entry requirements?

The course can be accessed by candidates who have a level 2 or 3 qualification with a recognised Awarding Body (ie YMCA Awards, Active IQ).

YMCA AWARDS LEVEL 3 AWARD IN ADAPTING EXERCISE FOR INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVE, OLDER PEOPLE - 2 DAY COURSE

 

People are living longer and becoming more active in retirement so why not optimise your career in this fast expanding market and develop your business in this specialist area.  The course covers the essential knowledge required to teach older adults.  It covers the ageing process including the physiology and anatomical changes that take place as well as conditions that occur due to the ageing process.  This course is appropriate for Personal Trainers, Pilates teachers, Gym and Studio teachers.

 

Course Content:

The course is delivered through theory, practical sessions and workshops and looks at appropriate exercise prescription for the stages of ageing including:

- Osteoporosis

- Advanced teaching skills

- Ageing conditions

- Exercises and adaptations appropriate for the ageing population

- ACSM guidlines

- Case study approach

- Functional and postural stabiliby

- Upon successful completion you will be awarded YMCA Awards Level 3 Award in Adapting Exercise for Independently Active, Older Adults

 

Prerequisites:

Students must meet the prerequisites prior to applying:

- Hold CYQ Level 2 Gym/ETM

- Currently teaching on a regular basis

 

Assessment requirements:

- Undertake a Case Study on a client of your choice

- Undertake the YMCA Awards Level 3 Theory paper

- Complete open book worksheets set by YMCA Awards

IN-HOUSE COURSES

YMCA AWARDS AWARD IN ADAPTING EXERCISE FOR ANTENATAL & POSTNATAL CLIENTS - 2 DAY COURSE

 

This specialist course focuses on the bio-medical and physiological changes that occur during the pre and post natal periods.  It will help you to develop and teach clients within a one to one setting, in a class or set up specific pregnancy sessions.  You can also expand your classes into a community based setting .  This course is very theory based however, adaptations for pregnancy will be explored for Pilates teachers, studio instructions, gym instructors, personal trainers.  It adopts a case study approach which enables you to apply all the principles you learn on the course to individual clients/groups.  The course will enable you to teach safely and ensure safety to mother and baby whilst delivering an effective and enjoyable exercise session.

 

Course Content:

The course is delivered through theory, practical sessions and workshops and appropriate exercise prescription for pregnancy and the post-partum period including:

- Practical application of exercises through the 3 trimesters

- Practical application of exercises in the post-partum period

- Pelvic floor

- Abdominal & back care in pregnancy

- Class structure

- Case study approach

- Advanced teaching skills

- Upon successful completion you will be awarded the YMCA Awards Level 3 Adapting Exercise for Pregnancy Certificate

 

Prerequisites:

Students must meet the prerequisites prior to applying:

- Hold CYQ Level 2 Gym/ETM

- Currently teaching on a regular basis

- Undertake the CYQ Level 3 Theory paper
